The revving reverend

Reverend David Wrightson is on a highway to heaven.

For Quakers Hill Uniting Church's newest "Rev", high speed motorcycling and religious observance offer the perfect blend for a healthy and balanced life.

Rev Wrightson has spent the last two months finding his feet in Quakers Hill.

Before being called to the area, the 53-year-old self-confessed revhead was based at Greystanes, where as well as offering the usual Sunday service, he took great delight in forming the Uniting Bike Riders group, which still gets together for regular weekend runs.

"I'm certainly regarded as different, but I want to live in the world, not apart from it," Rev Wrightson said.

"I believe that if you've got some passion in life you've got to go and follow it, because you never know what tomorrow brings."

Rev Wrightson spent his first 40 years working and living in Newcastle.

A mechanical engineer by trade, he has always been a keen motorsport fan and currently spends his time away from the church riding his Suzuki GSXR1000.

It was during the late '80s, after a major road accident, that Rev Wrightson considered the ministry. He completed his studies in 1995.

Rev Wrightson said he was hoping to bring some stability to the Quakers Hill Uniting Church and regarded himself as being there for the long term.

Each Sunday Rev Wrightson delivers 8am and 9.30am services at the church, at 32 Highfield Road, Quakers Hill.
