Boost for jobless as Salvos move in
Blacktown has been identified by The Salvation Army as the ideal locale for its latest Employment Plus office.
The program operates around the country and since its inception has found new jobs for more than 155,000 unemployed people.
The new Blacktown office, the 93rd in Australia, was officially opened yesterday.
"We are excited about the prospect of working in Blacktown with unemployed people and local employers," said state manager Ivan Kelly.
"We have identified Blacktown as an area of high need and it's an important site for us to expand our services to assist disadvantaged job seekers."
In the last year the service has helped 36,500 unemployed Australians find work.
The Blacktown office is equipped with job search computers, Australian job search kiosks, newspapers, local vacancies and employment consultants.
Mr Kelly said Employment Plus was mindful of the social effects of unemployment on the unemployed.
"Unemployment can have a very demoralising effect on individuals," he said.
The office is located at 28 Third Avenue. Call 96795400.
